235. Newport Beach

235. Newport Beach

About

The beach in Newport, Oregon, USA taken on March 11th 2011 - the day of the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. This was shot some hours after the tsunami hit the US west coast. Newport basically saw nothing of the tsunami and people were playing on the beach just hours after it should have hit. Crescent City, just 400 kilometers south of Newport lost several boats and in the harbour and had the only US fatality from the tsunami.

On another note - I've been thinking about how to increase my post rate and here's an idea: for each comment you leave I promise to post another picture. One per day, and if multiple comments come in they will queue up the posts. Interesting little experiment - so let's see how it goes.

And remember you're always free to ask anything in the comments, and I'll make sure to reply.
